About Us

Our two-year MFA program in Media Arts Production is the only graduate-level program of its kind, offering Documentary and Fiction tracks in an affordable and accessible public institution. We are a culturally diverse filmmaking community, located in New York City, the cultural capital of the world, with ready access to the finest talent, locations, organizations and production facilities.

For new and aspiring filmmakers, our graduate MFA program opens doors to the independent film world of NYC and beyond. Since its inception in 1997, graduates of our program have taken their films directly into the professional arena—from national television broadcasts to Student Emmys and Academy Awards. Their work has screened at Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca and other major film festivals across the globe.

Our faculty of award-winning filmmakers are dedicated to the principals of strong original storytelling through the creation of socially meaningful, visually engaging and cost effective work. The internationally acclaimed director, Chantal Akerman, has recently joined our faculty.

We are also home of the new Documentary Forum: CCNY Center for Film, Journalism, and Interactive Media.
