The boat graveyard is one of the largest collections of historical boats in the United States. They all have their own life story, but many of these stories have disappeared with the crew and captains. This short documentary brings audience to an amazing journey to the mysterious shipyard, revealing complex layers materials of boats’ constructions. This is part of their unique language, which the film explores visually.

Fan He

Fan He is a MFA candidate at City College of New York. Born from Hubei, China, Fan is now exploring his creative career in New York City. His short film Morning Song won Best Fiction at CUNY Asian American Film Festival in New York and got selected by festivals both in Beijing and Taiwan. In 2013, Fan made another short film Red Fog which represents the air pollution problem in China, the film catches attention from audiences both in China and abroad. It has been selected by Student Academy Awards- Regional Semifinalist, Palm Spring International ShortFest and other festivals all over the world.

Before film, Fan He was once vice chief editor at soufun.com (NYSE: SFUN) and vice chief editor at Mtime.com (Biggest movie website in China). In 2012, Fan He started to take charge of the new media distribution works at Huayi Brothers Media Group. He is a pioneer of short film international distribution. In 2013, Fan He launched his own distribution company EnMaze Pictures LLC in New York City. enMaze Pictures focuses on short film production and new media distribution, helps amazing short films to find their global audiences.

Documentary

A picture is worth a thousand words. PORTRAIT OF AN INCEST SURVIVOR, will paint a picture and each stroke will be a brief look into the lives of five extraordinary and courageous people from different cultures, backgrounds and walks of life who have survived the trauma of being sexually abused not by a stranger, but by a member of their family. Poetry and an interview with Rachel Lloyd, author of “Girls Like Us” and founder of GEMS (Girls Educational Mentoring Services) weave the film together as Alviria, Angelia, Ashton, Jamillah and Soyini break their silence to tell their stories of surviving incest.

Sonya Denise Reed is a graduate student at The City College of New York and the founder of Alabaster Box Productions.

Her background in both newspaper and broadcast journalism opened the doors to becoming a documentary film maker.

She has worked as freelance writer, producer and director, and is currently a part time production associate for Maysles Documentary Film Center in Harlem, New York.

Her previous film credits include the documentary short film “The Story of Joan, Angel Advocate” about the brutal rape and murder of 8 year old Joan D’Alessandro by a high school math teacher and her mother’s relentless 30 year battle to change the laws of imprisonment for child killers, and the narrative short films “The First Lady” and “HIV, Happiness Is Vanished”.

As an artist, Sonya remains true to her calling by knowing who she is.

Karen Moran

Karen Moran was born in Ecuador the 6th of May of 1982 and came to the United States at the age of 15. Karen obtained a B.A. in Film Production from Brooklyn College where her short film, Hopeless Love was nominated for best editing by the college’s Film Department in 2008. Karen’s documentary, Gathering Strength won the Saperstein Foundation Prize for best documentary in the Fall of 2011. Currently, Karen Moran is working as an assistant editor at Firelight Films.

Nicole was born in Miami, Florida, and grew up in Ithaca, New York. She graduated from Eugene Lang College (part of the New School University) with a BA in cultural studies. Nicole often partners with social justice organizations like Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, Ma’yan, and Jewish Voice for Peace on video projects. She recently directed and edited the short documentary That’s Not Fair! about a political theater apprenticeship for teenage girls, and her music video for The Shondes’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” was an official selection of the MIX Milan LGBT film festival in 2010. She has written for AfterEllen, Heeb, Prefix, On The Issues, $pread, and New York Magazine among other websites and publications. She loves cooking and watching good television.

Danish-born filmmaker Lars Fuchs came to the United States as an infant in the ’60’s, and has made New York City his home ever since. He was irredeemably lost to film at Cornell University, where an introductory film-making course tempted him away from a career as a computer programmer. Now, after over twenty years’ experience as an editor for film and television, he looks forward to graduating with a City College MFA and the challenge of making his own films.

Born in South Korea, Juhui flew to New York after graduating from college in Seoul and started studying and making films in New York. She started working as a creative director for a local TV advertisement company in Queens, while writing and directing her own ‘no-budget’ films. Last year, Juhui completed her first featurette film, ‘Feature Movie’. The film was listed as one of the top ten 2012 films in the magazine, ‘Sense of Cinema’, and Juhui was featured as a 2012 ‘New filmmakers’ in Desistfilm magazine.

Born in Eastern Europe, Moldova – Alex Leu spent his childhood emerged in music. Majoring in accordion at an early age, he won numerous awards as a soloist and member of different accordion orchestras both at home and abroad. Constantly looking for new ways of self expression, Alex started playing guitar, string bass and saxophone and began writing original music. As he concentrated on music composition, he discovered film music and the power of storytelling, which led him to study film at City College. In his quest to explore life through the arts, Alex hopes to merge music and writing into a tandem of expression and truth.
