At the age of 12 Cynthia Karalla escaped incarceration from a juvenile detention center in Pontiac, Michigan and never looked back. At 15 she arrived in New York City, alone and penniless. In the decades since, she has become a successful multimedia artist with works exhibited all over the world. HER MANNER OF OPERATION is an intimate venture into Karalla’s life experience and how the external subject matter of the artist’s painting, sculpture, film and still photography reflect the complex internal processes at work behind her survival and personal transformation.
